Helping others during Christmas break

Just because the children have a break from school, they don't forget about the lessons they learn there, especially compassion for others. On a cold and damp morning after Christmas, a group of 7th & 8th grade students armed with rakes, gloves and tarps met at Mr. Beck's home. Mr. Beck had a list of local residents who due to age, illness or other reasons were unable to rake their yards and needed assistance. Mr. Beck's crew came to the rescue.

Happy Birthday, Baby Jesus!

Before dismissal on Thursday, grades K through 2 treated the student body, families and friends to their moving performance titled "Long Ago One Holy Night". Joseph and Mary, the Three Wise Men, a Dancing Star, Angels and a chorus brought smiles to all of our faces. If you weren't able to attend, view the video posted here. It is sure to bring a smile to your face!

Christmas Musical

If you weren't feeling the true Christmas spirit yet, there is no doubt that you were not full of the spirit after this holiday concert. Family and friends were treated to instrumental performances by the band, piano students, and the bell choir, and vocal performances by all of the students and the honor's choir. It was obvious how hard the students worked to prepare for the show, their talents shone right through!

Mmmm, something smells good!

Wow, it is great to be part of a school where parents love to be involved! Today, Mrs. Wallace brought ingredients and equipment into the first grade classroom for a Christmas Cookie making lesson. She taught them how to measure ingredients and how to mix dough. Mrs. Wallace showed the children how the cookies bake in a mini-convection oven that she brought. The children had lots of fun decorating the cookies and were very excited to bring a few samples home to their familes.

Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe

December 12th was a special day in the sixth grade. In addition to celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the sixth grade class enjoyed a small feast to celebrate one special student's birthday. Later in the afternoon, a young hawk brought his own feast to our parking lot!

Advent Season Continues

Thursday and Friday were very busy days! The Kindergarten and 1st grades visited with their 7th and 8th grade prayer partners. Together, they wrote letters to Santa, created Christmas crafts and shared juice and cookies. 3rd and 4th grade learned how the Victorians celebrated Christmas and created a Victorian ornament. Saint Nicholas visited and left treats in the shoes of all the students. Students enjoyed shopping at the Scholastic Book Fair and the Secret Santa workshop. One lucky young lady won a very large stocking filled with surprises!

It's Snowing!

Nothing excites the children like a beautiful snowfall and especially the first one of the season. The route to the lunchroom was filled with the chorus of "It's snowing! It's snowing! It's snowing!" and by the sight of those trying to catch one of the season's first snowflakes. Already excited by the anticipation of the Feast of St. Nicholas (12/6), the Scholastic Bookfair and Secret Santa Workshop and Family Dinner (12/6-12/7), the children are just bursting at the seams!

Advent Begins

This morning, all of the children gathered in the hall for the weekly prayer service. Today's service was extra special because the first candle on the Advent Wreath was lit. One child from each family selected an ornament from the Giving Tree. On each ornament is the name of an item that the child's family is requested to purchase (ex. coloring book, gloves, diapers). The items will be distributed to local families in need. The children should bring their unwrapped items in to school on either 12/11 or 12/18 and they will be placed under the tree during the weekly prayer service. Thank you for your kindness!
